Rich Wingo

January 2012

Rich is from Elkhart,Indiana recruited by Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant playing for theUniversity ofAlabama from 1974 until 1978. Rich was part of the famous “Goal Line Stand” in the 1978 Sugar Bowl defeatingPennState winning the National Championship!

After graduating, Rich played for the Green Bay Packers for 7 years.  Rich was the Green Bay Packer 1979 MVP, Green Bay Packer Rookie of the Year and the 1984 Green Bay Packer NFL Man of the Year.  He still holds the Green Bay Packer “unassisted tackle record for one season”. 

At the completion of his professional football career, Rich coached at The University of Alabama from 1987 to 1989.  In 1990 - 2010 Rich served as President of AIG Baker Real Estate developing, designing, constructing and leasing shopping centers. Rich is currently COO of United American Assurance Corporation offering healthcare for government and private sector groups.  

Rich was blessed to be raised in a loving Christian home.  He accepted Christ as a youth, but truly began his Christian journey in 1983.

Rich is married to his wife of 32 years, Cheri * (pronounced as “Sheri”). They have two sons, Jake (25) and Luke (17). Jake is a Teacher/Coach at Sumter Academy and  Luke is a Senior at Hillcrest High School. Jake and Katie have twin sons – Sage and Walker.

Rich and family have been members of First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa since 1987. He has been a Sunday School teacher for 25 years, serving on the Deacon Board  as Deacon and Chairman, the Finance Committee and the Personnel committee. Rich is an active member of Men’s Fraternity.
